The Best BenQ-Siemens Black Box

blackboxphone2.jpg
Unlike previously mentioned, BenQ is still making phones in Asia, just no longer in the German market. This is one of the concept phones being worked on—the Black Box. No keypads, no buttons, just a big ass touchscreen. From the initial pictures it looks like the interface changes on the fly. I'm digging the black minimalist design overall. It will probably never see the light of day as an actual product, but it is still cool to look at, nonetheless.

The BenQ-Siemens A58

The BenQ-Siemens A58 cellular phone is business-oriented cellular phone that designed for businessmen.
One of the big disappointments that I have for this cell phone is the contact book can only hold up to 500 contacts. This is certainly a big mistake for BenQSiemens if they really want to target businessmen market as 500 contacts could easily be exceeded by a businessman.

Features and Specifications of BenQ-Siemens A58

The BenQ-Siemens A58 cellular phone weights 85gm and measures 102 x 46 x 17.6 mm.
The screen of this cell phone is a 65,000 colors (128×128 pixel resolution) CSTN display which is the standard LCD screen that you can find in almost all cellular phones in the market right now. The BenQ-Siemens A58 cellular phone has a built-in memory of 6.5MB and supports GPRS, JAVA MIPS 2.0, WAP and MP3 ringtones.
BenQSiemens claims that the A58 cellular phone can last 6hrs of talk time and as much as 300 hrs of standby time for a single charge.
The BenQ-Siemens A58 cellular phone is available in “Carbon Black” and “Mercury Silver” color schemes.

Siemens Pocket LOOX 720 Top Edition

Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX 720 is currently the most expensive representative of the new wave. Let's see what the customers may get at this considerable price (at the moment this article was written it was over 600 dollars).

Specification

We can forecast specification of this model only by how this model is positioned. But no harm will be in recalling features of high-end PocketPCs in Autumn 2004.
  • 640x480 touch screen. Trump card of the new wave PDAs, inspiration source for slogan writers. In comparison with competing products, LOOX 720 has a slightly smaller display diagonal (smaller by 0.4" than in Toshiba E800), but you will notice the difference only when comparing both devices lying side by side.
  • Intel XScale PXA272 operating at 520 MHz. Thanks to the efforts of PDA manufacturers it may be referred to mainstream processors – the outdated PXA2xx series is hastily replaced by the new PXA27x series. Potential of these processors is rather high, plus the Intel 2700G graphics accelerator in reserve. One can expect this series to have a long life.
  • 128 MB of RAM. Some manufacturers still produce top products with 64 MB RAM. Fujitsu-Siemens was not greedy: LOOX 720 has 123.23 MB available for applications.
  • 64 MB ROM, from which 28.7 MB is available to users as a flash card.
  • CF and SDio slots. It's quite rare for old models but it's a standard situation with modern top handhelds. Not all users need this functionality, but it's better have an opportunity than regret that you don't have it.
  • Built-in camera. It's a matter of prestige: if other models have it, LOOX 720 must have it as well. 1.3 megapixel in competitors – it must have no less. Competitors take pictures of a disgusting quality. LOOX must have the same quality!
  • Two wireless interfaces (Bluetooth and WiFi), which can operate simultaneously. One can assume that support for two radio interfaces will become a standard in the nearest future. ASUS MyPal A716 proves that. This handheld supports two wireless adapters, its price being about $450.
  • Dimensions – 122x72x15.2 mm, approximate parity with competitors. The display and two expansion slots require much space.
  • Weight – 170 g. It's even lighter than its competitors, 1640 mAh battery included!
  • USB host. This function makes the tiny computer look like its elder desktop brother. Now you can connect USB devices to a PDA.
  • Windows Mobile 2003SE. These days that's the only OS for Pocket PC, which has built-in support for 640x480 resolution.

Samsung Jet S8000

As you might guess from the name, the Samsung Jet S8000 is intended to be a very fast phone to use. At its heart is an 800 MHz processor, and the Jet also comes with WiFi and HSDPA high-speed downloads. There's a large 3.1" 800 x 480 pixel display, a 5 megapixel camera and GPS too.
Samsung are one of only a small number of mobile phone manufacturers who produce their own processors. In this case, Samsung say that inside the Jet is an 800 MHz Application Processor, which is probably some sort of ARM device. Samsung say that the Jet is the fastest full-touch device on the market, and that would be even faster than the 600 MHz Apple iPhone 3G S.
Before we get carried away with iPhone comparisons, it is important to point out that the Jet isn't a smartphone. It runs the new TouchWiz 2.0 interface with a bespoke Samsung web browser called "Dolfin" which can have up to five pages open at once and comes with a built-in ad blocker. There's a multimedia player and email client, and the Samsung Jet can also integrate with corporate Microsoft Exchange servers. For most potential users, the feature set on the Jet is probably perfectly adequate, but it lacks the advantage of the iPhone's massive selection of applications.
Samsung Jet S8000 We touched on multimedia a moment ago - the Samsung Jet S8000 can play back almost all major audio and video formats, including the ubiquitous MP3, AAC and Windows Media formats plus DivX movies. The Jet has a built-in FM radio and a standard 3.5mm audio socket. The Jet can manage to playback and record D1 video (at least 720 x 480 pixels) at 30 frames per second, which is pretty impressive. The Jet S8000 also has a video editor. All of this media can be stored on microSD cards of up to 16GB.
The 5 megapixel camera on the Jet has autofocus and a dual LED flash. Because it's a Samsung, the Jet's camera also has smile detection and panoramic stitching, plus it can use the Jet's GPS system to geo-tag photographs.
Samsung Jet S8000 Underneath, this is a quad-band GSM phone with 900 / 2100 MHz UMTS, with HSPDA download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps. In fact, the HSDPA speed is one potential weak point when some rivals will soon be topping 10 Mbps. WiFi is supported too, as is Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0. The S8000 measures 109 x 54 x 12mm and weighs a pretty lightweight 110 grams. The 1100 mAh battery provides a maximum talktime of 5 hours on 3G and 8 hours on GSM with around 17 days standby time.
In terms of styling, this is a pretty standard black slabby device bit a few colour highlights on the back, and an unusually shaped navigation button on the front which is just about the only distinctive feature.
The Samsung Jet S8000 should be available from June onwards. In the UK, it is available exclusively on Vodafone where's it is free on contracts of over £20 per month. Elsewhere in Europe, a SIM-free S8000 will be around €500 for the base model or €550 including navigation and mapping, with a rollout happening across the next couple of months.
We think that this is a pretty good phone, and the fast processor in it should make using it a very pleasant experience. Even so, it lacks the sexiness and flexibility of the iPhone, and Samsung may well find itself outmatched.

Samsung Omnia 7

The Samsung Omnia 7 features a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 4-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, 8GB/16GB built-in storage, microSD card of up to 16GB, and WiFi 802.11b/g/n among others.
Samsung Omnia 7
The Samsung Omnia 7 release date is holidays 2010 in Europe courtesy of partners like Orange, T-Mobile, Movistar, and SFR.
As for the US, the Omnia 7 will be called Samsung Focus and it’s going to become available exclusively at AT&T. The Samsung Focus release date is November 8th for the small
price of $199.99  for the very same specs.
The Samsung Omnia 7 forms half of Orange's Windows Phone 7 offering, the other handset being the HTC 7 Mozart, the one with the 8-megapixel camera. In a world where Microsoft has defined the minimum hardware specs, differentiation in the world of Windows Phone 7 comes down to little details. Fortunately the little detail the Samsung Omnia 7 has is a 4-inch AMOLED display.
It isn't the largest display on offer in the Windows Phone 7 portfolio, but all the phones offer the same 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It is the most striking display however, and having been faced with all the release handsets over the last week, we eschewed the vastness of the HTC HD7 for the punch of the Samsung. It offers better colour rendition, whiter whites and blacker black, whilst also staying true when you view from sharper angles.

The screen not only tips its hat to the Galaxy S, Samsung’s 4-inch Android handset, the design does too. Only this time you're not faced with a Palm full of plastic; instead you have a premium metal body that feels great in the hand. From a design point of view, the Omnia 7 towers over its Android brother, even if the internal specs are mostly the same.
This being a Windows Phone, you'll find the stipulated three buttons beneath the glorious screen, offering back, Start and search. This is common to all Windows Phones, as are the dedicated camera button and volume keys. Manufacturers are allowed to place the standby button wherever they like and here you'll find it on the right-hand side, as it is on the Galaxy S, and again the Micro-USB connector is on the top by a sliding cover. In this case the cover is also metal, so you get the sense that it will last the life of the device.

The backplate is removable, revealing the battery bay and SIM card slot. With Windows Phone 7 not supporting removable memory there is no expansion slot - you have the 8GB of internal memory and that's your lot. The idea, of course, is not to try and carry around your entire collection of photos, movies and music, but rather get engaged in the cloud-based offering that seems to be pushed here. In particular you'll find a range of ways you can utilise your SkyDrive, which comes as part of your Windows Live account, with Microsoft putting its services front and centre across the device. That's no different to Apple with MobileMe or Android with your Google account and we can live with that.
Microsoft doesn't shut itself off from the outside world though - Facebook integration is one of the headline features of the People Hub and you can plug in your Google details too to pull in your contacts, calendar and emails, along with the expected support for Outlook and Exchange. Out of the box you’ll be up and running in no time at all, your online content syncing to the phone with very little bother.
We've covered the details of the operating system in our Windows Phone 7 review and we're not going to repeat it all here - there are also lots of photos of the OS in that review. If you are interested in the experience of living with the new operating system from Microsoft, then give it a read - we’ve put a link at the bottom of this review so you can head straight to it once you’ve finished here. What we will do is look at those applications you'll find pre-installed on the phone.

Samsung, it seems, is determined to bring the cheapest touchscreen phones to the Indian market. The Samsung S3650 Corby saw moderate success even at its cheap price tag of around Rs. 10,000. Samsung has now decide to launch a scaled-down version of the extensively marketed Samsung S3650 Corby phone - The Corby Pop C3510. It is speculated to have most of the features of its predecessor and a retail price tag of around Rs. 7,000. This will take the low-budget touchscreen phone battle to a completely new level.

Samsung Corby Pop C3510

The complete feature set of the Corby Pop has not been announced yet, however rumors suggest that it will sport a 1.3-Megapixel Camera, 22MB internal memory and a strong Li-ion Battery suitable for a continuous conversation of as much as 8 hours! The Corby Pop also features a 2.8-inch touchscreen based on QVGA technology. It also has support for MP3 files and FM radio. The handset, like the S3650, will also have the trademark Samsung features such as ‘multi-instant messaging’ and support for social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Though the price is quite decent for a touchscreen phone, it lacks features like 3G and Wi-Fi support. Although the 3G base is not very strong in India, lack of Wi-Fi support is something which will bother the user.

Incidentally, Samsung has also announced a better version of the C3650, which is Wi-Fi enabled as well. Although both phones were displayed on Samsung websites ‘Coming Soon’ section, there has been no official announcement by Samsung about their specifications and price which only allows people to speculate. The Cartoon UI went down well with the Indian consumers who found the interface ‘funky’ and easy to use. Another point favoring Corby is the presence of a Capacitive touchscreen which seems to be the preference among the Indian consumers. The aggressive pricing of this handset not only is a stiff competition to touch screen phones, but also to the basic phones sold around the price tag of Rs 5000-6000. Lets see if this price tag encourages other companies to follow suit.
